This interactive training course will provide participants with insights into the rapidly developing sustainability-linked loan and capital markets. Many companies and institutions are responding to investor/ lender demand for a strategic position to be taken towards climate change.
Sustainability-linked loans (SLLs) and bonds (SLBs) can incentivise companies to align their environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategies with outcomes; the achievement of meaningful, pre-determined sustainability performance targets.
This course will use the International Capital Market Association’s (ICMA) and the Loan Market Association’s (LMA) ESG bond and loan principles to underpin the learning and case studies.
Learning Outcomes
Understand and explain the evolving regulatory and governance trends in ESG loan and capital markets
Identify and understand the role of key players in the ESG loan/bond markets
Become familiar with the ICMA/LMA sustainability bond and loan principles
Understand the core ESG principles: Use of Proceeds, Project Evaluation and Selection, Management of Proceeds and Reporting
Analyse the principal compliance, credit, legal, operational, reputational risks
Grant Metcalfe-Smith
Grant is an experienced international and emerging market capital markets consultant. He has technical and leadership knowledge and skills, together with first-hand experience in over 38 emerging and frontier markets as an investor in a range of ESG and non-ESG debt, equity and loan investment products.
As a former senior banker at the EBRD he lead a team which worked closely with multi industry-sector bankers and risk officers to create loan, bond and equity investments in over 25 local currencies. He also has considerable expertise in debt capital market governance and strategy.
Prior to the EBRD Grant worked for 15 years in London-based investment banks where he marketed and structured a range of derivative and fixed income solutions for U.K., Benelux and Scandinavian corporate and institutional clients.
